Concrete Contractor

Picture
Concrete jobs require help from many different professionals. It is definitely not a one person job.
Seperate companies are required for most of the steps along the way and their cooperation is coordinated by the concrete contractor.

First, the space where the concrete will be poured is excavated. Then, a concrete form is framed out with wood and reinforced to withstand the weight that will be poured into it. Usually a professional carpenter with experience making concrete forms is used. If a form is not strong enough it will break and concrete will spill out in a dangerous fashion. If this happens it will have to be dug out by hand or worse it may have to be left to harden and broken up and removed forcing massive delays to a project. Sometimes even engineers underestimate the force that a concrete form will have to withstand. Experienced form builders have usually seen one of these things happen making their experience as a concrete form builder even more valuable, A concrete contractor is in charge of hiring a carpenter with experience building concrete forms.

Next, rebar is placed to reinforce the concrete so it has directional strength. Usually on smaller projects this will be done by the form builder or sometimes the concrete contractor themselves. On larger projects, a professional team of rebar installers will bend, place and tie the rebar together.

Usually a concrete pump truck is required to move the concrete from the cement mixing truck to the place where the concrete will be poured. A concrete pump truck is a specialized truck which is part truck and part concrete pump. There are many different types of pump trucks in various sizes but generally they are divided into two categories. The first are line-pump trucks which are used for smaller jobs that can be accessed via ground level. The second are boom pump trucks which are used for larger jobs or for jobs that require the concrete to be poured up and over an obstacle. Boom pump trucks range in size from 20 meters to a whopping 65 meters. New boom pump trucks are being created everyday, expanding on what can be achieved with concrete and increasing the efficiency of projects. Boom pumps can also be attached to cranes and are what are used to build large towers.

After the form is built, the concrete pump truck is in place and ready to pump concrete into the form, a concrete mixing truck is called to deliver the concrete from the cement factory. Sometimes the job will require more than one cement truck to pour one project. A concrete contractor is required to coordinate the ordering of concrete from the factory because the timing of the concrete truck's arrival is so critical for success. If more than one concrete truck arrives at a time and is not able to pour its load before the concrete hardens then you will be required to pay for the concrete. Or worse, a if a concrete truck cannot pour its load and wash out with-in a few hours you may be liable to replace the whole machine. The most serious offence that can be committed in the concrete industry is allowing the concrete to dry inside a machine. This can happen surprisingly quickly on a hot day making it especially important that the teams involved in pouring, placing and finishing the concrete to be in sync. You cannot send concrete back to the concrete factory. The factory mixes each batch to a specific consistency to suit your project and once a batch is mixed it must be poured before it hardens!  Alternatively if a concrete truck is late arriving and your project hardens before it is completed you will be required to chip out the hardened concrete and start again. It is the job of the concrete contractor to know the type of concrete to order and coordinate the arrival of the concrete trucks.

Finally, once the concrete has been delivered and pumped, the concrete is placed, vibrated, leveled, and finished by the placing and finishing team. This is once again a different set of concrete professionals who have years of experience in placing, leveling and finishing concrete.

If you need help with any of these steps call 604-373-1224 today! Concrete Services Vancouver will be happy to help with all of the steps along the way. By hiring a concrete contractor you can be sure that all of these steps will be coordinated professionally saving you money and time.

The cost of a concrete project can quickly balloon out of control if it is not coordinated properly. A lead builder will often hire a concrete contractor to handle the contracts for the: framework, rebar, and placing and finishing work.

It is not advised that you attempt any significant sized concrete project on your own. It is very unlikely that you will not save any money by attempting any medium to large scale concrete project on your own.
Most likely you will be unsatisfied with the result, or worse your project will be unsafe. There are many factors that concrete professionals have learned to overcome through experience.
