Concrete Sealing can ensure that your concrete project stays stain-free and resistant to UV damage and other forms of corrosion for decades. This is usually recommended for high traffic areas such as patios, pool decks, walkways, and driveways.
Concrete Sealing is also recommended for driveways, storage sheds, and other places vehicles will be kept. Concrete sealants plug the pores of the concrete surface to inhibit moisture, chemicals, and other contaminants from permeating the concrete.
Sealants can be either: penetrating sealants or film-forming also known as, surface-level sealants. Both types have their unique applications and qualities although penetrating sealants generally last a little longer.
Penetrating sealants include silicates, silicones, siloxane, and silanes. Usually penetrating sealants are necessary to prevent against the harshest weather conditions such as freezing and thawing. Penetrating sealants also don’t alter the look of the concrete so that it remains natural looking.
Film-forming or surface-level sealants include polyurethane, acrylic, and epoxy concrete sealers. They form a protective barrier on the surface of the concrete. This is often used in decorative situations to protect and enhance colour, or add shine to highlight decorative accents.
Sometimes in areas such as pool decks and other potentially slippery areas a traction additive is used to increase traction, reducing slipping.
